A Day on the Farm

Today my cousin Michelle and I took our kids to see their Great-Grandma Hansen. Grandma Hansen lives on a dairy farm in Smithfield. Jack and Molly had a great time running around in the mud/cow poo, climbing on the tractors, going for wagon rides, and looking at all the cows. Ruby had fun sleeping in Grandma's arms the whole time.

This is as close to the big cows as Molly would get. She didn't like how they started walking toward us when we stood by the fence.

But the baby cows. . . She liked them. Molly saw a calf suck on my finger, and this was her attempt to try and get this calf to suck on hers. But every time it got any closer to her, she would get scared and back away.

Molly stepped in a mud puddle and got her feet all wet and dirty. I think it ruined her day. Grandma took her into the cow milking room and sprayed her feet off. She didn't like that much either. Her face says it all.

Jack's favorite thing to do was ride the wagon.

Okay, this next picture is disgusting. If you look closely you will see that this poor cow is giving birth. It was just in the beginning stages of delivery. Grandma said the calf will probably be born by the end of the day. I kind of wish I could have stayed and watched. It was pretty cool. Michelle has witnessed a cow being born at Grandma's before. She said it traumatized her. Big baby. :)

Blessing Day

We blessed Ruby today. She was very cooperative. She screamed for the entire first part of the meeting. As soon as Marc took her up to bless her, she stopped. I guess she knew what was supposed to happen. She was good for the entire blessing, fell asleep for a few minutes, then continued squawking until the end of the meeting. I think she could tell that I was a little frantic about the whole situation and got a little nervous herself. Thank you to everyone who helped make this day a good one for us to remember. Black Eye

Molly has her first black eye. Hopefully this will be her only black eye, ever. Anyway, she was running around at Grandma's house and fell and hit her face on a chair. We thought she broke her nose because it was kind of pushed to the side. But now that the swelling has gone down, her nose has straightened out. So we don't think her nose is broken, but the poor kid has quite the shiner.

Animal Sounds

This actually happened a while ago, but I was thinking about it today and remembered how funny it was. One day Marc was reviewing animal sounds with Molly. They went over the usual cow, dog, pig; you know, whatever. Then Marc asked her what a donkey says. Molly said that the donkey says, "Pick me! Pick me! Ohh, Pick me!" Yes, my daughter is a couch potato and one of her favorite movies is Shrek. On the DVD menu Donkey is jumping up and down saying, "Pick me!" over and over. Not such a wrong answer after all, huh?
